Miguel Torres


Miguel Angel Torres (born January 18, 1981) is a Mexican American mixed martial artist who fights for the World Extreme Cagefighting organization. [1] He is a former WEC Bantamweight champion. Prior to fighting with the WEC, Torres also held the bantamweight title for the US Shooto organization, as well as for the Ironheart Crown. Torres specializes primarily in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and also possesses a potent Muay Thai striking arsenal.

Miguel Angel Torres has established himself as one of the best MMA competitors in the world in his weight. He is ranked number one in the country and number three in the world in the Shooto feather/light weight (135lbs) division. Torres has quickly become one of the best and most exciting personalities in the Mixed Martial Arts community.

He holds over three dozen wins in his professional career, including a number of title belts in various federations with only one defeat. Among his achievements are achieving gold medals at the Arnold’s Classic and Gracie Nationals, as well as taking silver at the Pan American tournaments.

Miguel has developed well rounded and top of the line fighting skills in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, and several other art forms including Bruce Lee’s style of Jeet Kun Do. He has trained with world known masters such as Marcello Monteiro, Ricardo De la Riva, and was under the tutelage of the late, great Carlson Gracie Sr. Torres has studied in both the U.S. and Brazil.

His passion and dedication for the sport of MMA go beyond the imagination. Together with his unquestionable skills and very easy going personality, Torres has created one of the best MMA gyms in thecountry.

Torres is also gaining a nation-wide reputation for training some of the best in the business. Torres has made it his goal to expand his horizons and pass down his extensive knowledge of combat sports and self-defense to all his students, whether beginner or full-contact fighter.

Torres owns and operates a mixed martial arts academy in Hammond, Indiana where he teaches nearly 200 students. Among these students are several up and coming fighters whom he trains to fight in the same local shows that he once competed in himself. The academy specializes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
